I sit in an airport listening to my music on my iPod on shuffle. I’ve got a few thousands songs on my iPod. Never know what I am in the mood for. However if you know me my favorite artists don’t change much. But in the last few years I’ve discovered where my other favorite music comes from.  Movie Soundtracks… Then a quite a few years later Tv shows featuring songs from the shows.
I know everyone knows about this. But in this new iTunes age of music I no longer find much new music that I like whole albums of. It all started with the Hope Floats soundtrack which I only watched to see Sandra Bullock. Not only did I like the movie but the music was so good, and fit the movie so well I ran out and bought it that next day. That album was go good I gave country music a chance and although not my favorite spawned a few years of steady listening.
Now in my early forties I don’t identify with some of today’s music (namely hip hop, urban dance) music. But since Lindsey is in her late twenties I listen to my share and have even found some I really enjoy. Here is a short list of some of my favorite soundtracks (movies and tv), Scrubs soundtrack (2), Veronica Mars, Smallville (2), One Tree Hill (2), Twilight (2), The Wedding Singer, Hope Floats, Cool World Soundtrack

There are also some songs that come on and have quite a profound effect on me. They very a lot except they share a certain emotional component. Right now the song has changed and Fleetwood Mac “Dreams” has come on. Here are a couple more:

I have about 4 different prints by this artist. I was introduced to this 20 years ago in a relatives house who had a signed serigraf. I love the balance of childrens animation art mixed with grown up messages and meaning.

Most people I know don’t know how much i like to read.  There is a simple reason for their misunderstanding. I find myself watching TV or playing Video Games!   I just can’t find many books I like.  Here are my favorite authors:

Terry Brooks – Sword of Shanara series and all the off shoots.  He is a perfect story teller among the fantasy writers.  I prefer his writing style above all others.  If you are new to this genre I recommend this or Harry Potter series to get you started.

Terry Goodkind – Sword of Truth series.  This series deals with honor, faith, morality, idealism, and a healthy dose of philosophy.  These books can lead to lond discussions.  After the 5th book there is a dark edge to the writing.

Piers Anthony – Xanth when i was younger, Incarnations of Immortality, Adept Series, Mode Series, and Pornucopia.  I’ve read somewhere close to 90 of his books.  The Incarnations have been my favorite series by Piers.  They handle topics such as death, war, time, destiny nature, evil, and good.

J.K. Rowling – Deserves all the success she has had.  I wish they had not made the movies for 10+ years after the books.  Too many watched the movies instead of reading the books.  Even so these books have opened reading to generations that embrace video gaming, internet, social networking and technology.  This is no easy feat.  I think these books should be required reading in schools.  They teach values such as friendship, honor, trust, equality, self respect and humility.

Robert Fulghum  -  All of his inspirational books including the essay All I really know i learned in kindergarten.  Under-rated.  I recommend these to all friends and family.  Unfortunately i think that most people read them and dismiss them as cute and not deep enough.
